Honors

In order to be considered for Honors, students must complete at least 45 semester hours of credit carried at the University of Florida.  Only junior and senior level coursework (excluding the internship) will be considered in the upper division GPA.  Credit earned through correspondence or extension courses is not included in the upper division GPA.

 

Students intending to graduate with “Honors” (Cum Laude) must:

  • Earn an upper division GPA of 3.4 or higher (excluding the internship)
  • Neither an honors application or special project is required for “honors” students.

 

Guidelines for High and Highest Honors

Student eligibility for High or Highest honors need to select the type of project they would like to complete (Academic Portfolio or Senior Thesis)

Students intending to pursue “High” honors (Magna Cum Laude) must:

  • Earn an upper division GPA of 3.7 or higher (excluding the internship)
  • Choose two faculty members from the Department of Health Education and Behavior to serve on your honors committee.  (One acts as a chair and one acts as the secondary reviewer.)
  • Meet with the chair of your honors committee the semester PRIOR to your internship semester to discuss academic portfolio ideas and how to get started
  • Complete the honors application
  • Complete the Academic Portfolio

Students intending to pursue “Highest” honors (Summa Cum Laude) must:

  • Earn an upper division GPA of 3.70 or higher (excluding the internship)
  • Choose two faculty members from the Department of Health Education and Behavior to serve on your honors committee.  (One acts as a chair and one acts as the secondary reviewer.)
  • Meet with the chair of your honors committee the semester PRIOR to your internship semester to discuss thesis ideas and how to get started
  • Complete the honors application
  • Complete the Senior Thesis

 

Honors Application Form

The application must be completed and signed by the student, and two HEB faculty members.

 

NOTE: The calculated upper division GPA can be found on the COMPLETE degree audit, below the requirement which reads, “HONORS ARE AWARDED BASED ON UPPER DIVISION GPA”.
